Japanese Knotweed

Friday, May 11th, 2012

Two areas of japanese knotweed have been identified within the allotment field -at the North East corner and along the East perimeter. This is a highly invasive and pernicious weed and landowners have a duty to control it. The allotment field is owned by South Ayrshire Council and therefore Gavin has contacted Mira at SAC and in turn she has spoken to the ground maintenance team. The most effective time to treat the plant with weedkiller is late summer and SAC have advised they will treat the areas sometime in August.

If anybody is interested in reading more about japanese knotweed the Environemnt Agency website has a page with a lot of useful information http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/wildlife/130079.aspx
